Fitted furniture, designed in Bromsgrove

Bespoke Fitted Furniture, Knowle

If you are looking at fitted furniture in Knowle — a historic village with a conservation area and a well-kept High Street — we design it, manage the making of it and see it installed. Local housing runs to period properties and cottages alongside substantial detached houses, and each room gets measured and drawn from scratch.

We work from Bromsgrove, a short journey east. Design, specification and project management are ours, and the making is done by specialist manufacturing partners we have used for years. The first visit costs nothing.

Where fitted furniture works best

These are the pieces we are asked for most often. All of it is designed around the room rather than assembled from standard sizes.

Bedroom storage, made to measure

Full-height fitted wardrobes that use the whole wall rather than stopping short of the ceiling, and walk-in dressing rooms where the room allows. Knowle has a good deal of period properties and cottages alongside substantial detached houses, so the interior is planned around the room’s real dimensions.

Living room storage and media walls

A bespoke media wall brings the screen, equipment, cabling and storage into one considered piece, instead of a television on a stand with boxes underneath.

Home offices and studies

Work space that suits the hours you actually keep: a full study, or a fitted desk that disappears behind doors when the day ends.

Alcoves, shelving and smaller joinery

Alcove units and bookcases either side of a chimney breast, plus the smaller joinery — window seats, boot room storage, understairs cupboards — that makes a house work properly.

Fitted around your Knowle home

Older Knowle properties rarely offer a true square corner or a level floor, so furniture bought off the shelf tends to sit badly. Scribing each piece to the room is the difference between something that fits and something that merely stands there.

No two rooms measured the same

period properties and cottages alongside substantial detached houses rarely give you a level floor or a true corner. We work to the measurements we take on the day, which is why fitted work sits properly where off-the-shelf units leave a gap. Solihull, Dorridge, Balsall Common are all close by, and you can see every one of the areas we cover we cover.

What to expect

Three stages, essentially: a free visit to measure and discuss, then drawings and a written price, then making and installation once you have agreed it.

Your questions answered

Can you make furniture for a period or listed property?

Yes. We are used to working with uneven walls, original features and rooms that are not square, and we scribe the work to fit. If a property is listed, we would always recommend confirming what consent is needed before work begins.

Will the finish match existing joinery in an older house?

In most cases yes. We can look at existing skirtings, architraves and door styles during the design visit and match profiles and finishes so new work sits comfortably with what is already there.

Can you remove existing fitted wardrobes first?

Yes. Taking out old units and making good the walls, floor and skirting behind them can be included in the work, so you are not left with patching to organise separately.

Do you work to a fixed price?

The written quotation sets out the agreed scope and price. If something changes once work is under way — usually because of what is found behind an old unit — we tell you before doing it rather than afterwards.

Do you need to move furniture out first?

The room needs to be clear where we are working. We will tell you exactly what needs moving before the installation date so there are no surprises on the morning.
