Bespoke media wall and fitted storage in Catshill
A former children’s room in Catshill, near Bromsgrove, turned into a modern teenage media and chill-out space. A full-width bespoke media wall, integrated lighting, concealed storage and matching fitted cabinetry, all designed as one scheme rather than a collection of separate pieces.
The room is relatively compact, so the furniture had to add a lot of storage without making the space feel heavy or closed in.
The brief
The customer wanted to move the room on from an old children’s playroom into something his daughters would still want to use as they got older.
A contemporary media area
A television-centred focal point with open display shelving either side, in a modern, sleek finish.
Storage that stays hidden
Generous concealed storage behind handleless fronts, so the design keeps its clean lines.
Furniture off the floor
Cabinetry raised from the floor, keeping more of the flooring visible so the room reads as larger.
Lighting designed in
Warm ambient lighting through the shelving, controlled remotely so no switches interrupt the furniture.
A media wall built around the room
The main feature is a full-width fitted media wall, designed around the exact proportions of the space. A central television area creates the focal point, framed by open shelving either side, with a run of handleless cabinetry beneath for concealed storage.
Designing the furniture to appear raised from the floor mattered in a smaller room: it keeps a sense of openness, lets more of the floor show, and gives the media wall a more architectural feel.
Egger Graphite outside, Linen inside
The external furniture is finished in Egger Graphite, a bold contrast against the lighter walls and flooring. Inside the cabinets we used Egger Linen, a lighter textured finish that gives the interiors a refined, furniture-quality feel.
The contrast only shows when a door is opened, which is part of the appeal. Premium Blum Onyx hardware was used throughout, so the detailing inside the units matches the quality outside.
Warm Häfele lighting, designed in from the start
Häfele LED lighting runs through the shelving to soften the room in the evenings and pick out the open display areas. It is controlled remotely, so the customer can change the feel of the room without a switch anywhere on the furniture.
Against the dark Graphite finish, the warm lighting changes the room completely once it is on — which is exactly what a media and relaxation space needs.

Matching storage on the adjacent wall
As well as the media wall, we designed further fitted storage on the adjacent wall: a wall-mounted double-door cabinet with internal shelving, and floating shelves beneath it.
Using the same Graphite finish ties the two areas together, so the room feels deliberately designed rather than furnished piece by piece.
Three weeks, enquiry to handover
From the customer’s first contact through design, manufacture, installation and handover, the whole project took about three weeks.
In that time we developed the design around the space, agreed the finishes and details, arranged manufacture and completed the installation.
